Walkthrough
This walkthrough will show you how to install and run the free version of
Ad-aware, one of the spyware removal programs listed on the previous page.
1. The first step is to visit the Lavasoft website and click on the Download Now icon.
2. Next, you will be prompted to either Open or Save the installation file. If you choose to save the install file remember to save it in a location that will be easy for you to locate the file.
3. Once the installation file is downloaded, open the file and follow the steps of the installation setup menu. Once the installation has finished, you will need to locate the shortcut for the program in one of two places 1) Your desktop or 2) The start menu: Click Start – Programs – Lavasoft Ad-aware 6 – then one the icon for Ad-aware to begin the program.
4. Once the program has loaded, you will see a menu in the middle of your screen that looks much like this:
To begin a scan of your system you can either choose “Scan Now” on the left, or choose “Start” on the bottom right-hand corner.
5. Click “next” and Ad-aware will begin to scan your system. (This may take a while depending on the size and speed of your system.
6. One the scan is complete; click on next to view a list of all the various spyware on your system. To quarantine the spyware you must check the boxes next to each item in the list and then click on “Next” When prompted to remove the selected items, choose “OK”.

You are now finished removing the spyware on your system. You may close the program now by clicking the “x” in the top right hand corner. Remember to scan your system for spyware regularly.
Note: Before running a system scan it is a good idea to make sure your reference files are up to date. Reference files in Ad-aware act much like virus definitions in you antivirus program. New types of spyware come out all the time, and keeping your reference files up to date can insure Ad-aware finds all the spyware that may be on your system. To update your reference files just click on the text: Check for updates now. Then follow the directions to update your reference file. Once the update has finished, you can run a system scan with the most up-to-date information.
